Oakland Bloom
Oakland Bloom is a nonprofit that works towards support working-class, immigrant, and refugee groups in Oakland creating restaurant businesses. Their goal is to develop economic equity and racial justice in the food industry; particularly through communicating catering options and leading Open Test Kitchen — a shared commercial kitchen that chefs can use, giving them affordable facilities, business support, catering and pop-up opportunities, and connections to resources.
Our Project
This project builds a WhatsApp bot and companion app for Oakland Bloom, a nonprofit supporting immigrant and refugee chefs through its shared Open Test Kitchen. The bot automates catering communication, pulling from a database of past events and orders to cut down repetitive coordination, while the app adds a kitchen/equipment booking system that prevents double-booking, plus photo-based check-in/check-out (with potential CV) to track equipment condition. An admin dashboard gives staff a centralized view of reservations, equipment, and chef activity — reducing manual work and helping Oakland Bloom scale support for chefs.
