BORP

BORP or Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program, originally based in Berkeley, CA, works to provide adaptive sports, fitness, and recreational programs for youth and adults with physical mobility and vision disabilities. Access California (Access CA) is a BORP program that, for roughly 20 years, has published detailed accessibility guides for outdoor sites across California β€” largely along the coast.

BORP

Our Project

An iOS-first mobile app for BORP's Access California program that digitizes outdoor accessibility surveying, replacing manual, equipment-heavy fieldwork with a structured in-app workflow. It walks surveyors through a guided, site-ordered questionnaire using the device's camera to measure features like slope and width, tagging each site with GPS location, and working fully offline since trails rarely have signal. By combining structured surveying, offline capture, GPS mapping, and direct barrier reporting β€” a combination no existing app offers β€” the project will let the NPO produce accessibility guides faster and expand access to outdoor recreation for people with mobility and vision disabilities.
