📣 Our application for Fall 2025 is now open! 📣
Amigos de los Rios is working to create the Emerald Necklace: a natural infrastructure network of green spaces, green schools, parks, and trails throughout under-served communities in the Los Angeles Basin. In the wake of the Eaton Fire, Amigos is focused on restoring trees and natural spaces in the Altadena area. A key part of their mutual-aid recovery effort is sending volunteers to water newly planted trees on private properties.
A mobile application to optimize and support volunteer tree-watering operations. The app will automatically generate efficient routes for each volunteer group using mapping and routing algorithms, removing the need for staff to manually assign tasks. Volunteers will be able to access their personalized routes on their phones, navigate to each property, and submit real-time updates on watering activity, tree conditions, and issues encountered. This system will make the watering program more efficient, scalable, and impactful for Amigos’ reforestation efforts.
